Salviati w/ Norman Foster in Piazza San Marco

"HYDRA" the reinterpretation of the Venetian Chandelier

Venice, 13 September 2026 – On the occasion of Murano Illumina il Mondo 2026, Salviati presents Hydra, the chandelier created with Norman Foster and the Norman Foster Foundation, on view in Piazza San Marco beneath the Procuratie Vecchie.

The project stems from the dialogue between contemporary design research and the centuries-old knowledge of Murano master glassmakers. Through a new interpretation of the Venetian chandelier, Hydra brings together architecture, engineering, glassmaking and light, transforming one of the most iconic objects of Venetian tradition into a work with a contemporary language.

Made in Murano by Salviati’s master glassmakers, the chandelier enhances the expressive qualities of blown glass: matter, transparency, colour and light become part of a single composition suspended between object, sculpture and installation.

With Hydra, Salviati confirms its commitment to carrying forward the tradition of Murano glass through collaborations capable of opening up new design and cultural perspectives.

Hydra will be on view in Piazza San Marco, near the Negozio Olivetti, from 13 September to 1 November 2026.
