The 64th edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano introduces a new exhibition path dedicated to bespoke projects and B2B collaborations: installations that foster encounters between artists, designers, and manufacturers, highlighting the contribution each of these players can bring to the world of contract design.
Within this context, the collaboration between Draga & Aurel and Salviati has led to the development of unique furnishing elements, shaped from the idea of light as an active agent—an integral part of matter and its evolution.
This experimentation takes physical form through the Soffio and Crisalide collections, specially designed by Draga & Aurel for Salone Raritas, as well as through the Ganci LS: an iconic modular element from Salviati’s 1960s catalogue, reinterpreted for this important new occasion.
After exploring and pushing beyond the traditional expressive boundaries of resin—the duo’s material of choice—Draga & Aurel approached glass in a similar way, engaging in a process of open-ended research.
The Soffio and Crisalide lamps are a vivid expression of this exploration, which took shape within the Salviati furnace, in an open dialogue between traditional techniques and the potential of the raw material.
The Soffio lamps embody the essence of blown glass, pushed to the limits of its plasticity. The material richness of glass takes form through the combination of different techniques and types of glass used for the boule—pulegoso, cotisso, and cracklé—supported by a metal base that both sustains and enhances them, resulting in a highly contemporary ensemble. Light diffuses from within, taking shape almost as if it were a living presence.
Minimalist, pure, and geometric forms are paired with a vision of the surface that is free, unique, vibrant, and in constant motion.
In these pieces, colour is the medium through which the material expresses itself. The panels are created using the glass fusing technique, with the aim of appearing light, floating, and ethereal, while still retaining their density and material presence when observed up close.
The Crisalide lamps do not simply illuminate; they narrate a process—a continuous transformation that takes shape in matter that still appears alive.
“With glass, we chose not to impose a form, but to listen to the material. Entering the furnace and working alongside master glassmakers means embracing the unexpected and transforming it into a project. It is the same approach that has always guided our research: pushing materials beyond their conventional use, allowing them to suggest new expressive possibilities.”
Draga & Aurel
Born from a design intuition of the 1960s, these Salviati modular glass elements embody a perfect balance between timeless aesthetics and contemporary versatility. Each composition comes to life starting from a single unit – the LS hook – an essential module capable of evolving into endless configurations.
Like a refined luminous puzzle, the elements interconnect to create striking chandeliers, elegant wall sconces, or evocative partition walls, with or without light. The transparency and craftsmanship of the glass enhance the interplay of solids and voids, generating reflections that enrich the space with lightness and character.
A truly modular solution, this system offers maximum design freedom: every installation becomes unique, naturally adapting to both residential and contract settings. A style icon that transcends time, reinterpreted to meet the needs of contemporary living.
